The capital of the vilayet of Kosovo was elsewhere until 1879, but it seems that the circumstances there with the League of Prizren, founded on June 10, 1878, caused the Ottoman authorities to make radical changes in the internal state organization in this vilayet. In the framework of these changes, the transfer of the capital to Pristina must have been included. The decision for this change was officially made on February 18, 1879, that is, coincidentally one day after the date when 130 years later Kosovo officially declared independence in the same city. During this period, Prishtina experienced great economic and cultural development, recovering after decades of decline. In the same year, the state printing press was moved to the capital, the first ever registered. There are also several valuable buildings in Pristina from this time, including the current building of the National Museum (formerly the government mansion) that was completed in 1885. On September 14, 1888, the capital of the vilayet was moved to Skopje.
