Prishtina was one of the first cities in Kosovo to fall under the long Ottoman rule. Because of its past as an administrative center, and its proximity to the mining town of Novobërda, early on Prishtina turned into a cosmopolitan city, where the Muslim majority coexisted with the Christian communities (of both rites) and Jews, not excluding even the Copts (Egyptians).
Ottoman-style buildings, such as mosques, hammams, taps, schools, clock towers, or even the government mansion built during this period, reveal the traces of this five-century rule, which was etched in the history of Prishtina, which for 34 years was also the capital of the Vilayet of Kosovo.
This scientific research aims to provide a political, social and economic overview of the city of Pristina during the Ottoman rule.
